Terre Antiche Gavi di Gavi

Terre Antiche Gavi di Gavi is an attractive lemon yellow colour. This wine is scented and delicate, with hints of lime zest on the nose and fruit with a lovely zip and verve on the palate and a mineral finish.

Terre Antiche Gavi di Gavi is made by La Giustiniana using some of the wine that doesn't make it into the blend for their single vineyard Lugarara Gavi di Gavi but at the same time preserving the quality for which La Giustiniana is justly renowned.

Donato Lanati, one of Italy's best consultants, began working with La Giustiniana at the beginning of 1998. His indelible stamp of quality is evident in all this estate's wines.

The changes wrought in the winery by Lanati, including the introduction of cutting edge equipment, are now being matched with the improvements being made in the vineyard, where better grapes are giving purer, richer and better balanced wines. The entire estate covers 110 hectares in the heart of the commune of Rovereto in Gavi, of which 40 are under vine.

The wine estate is 40 hectares, which are planted with highly specialised vines. All vineyards are between 300-500 metres above sea level. Soils are grey marl with loose sandy topsoil. The vines face south/southeast and are Guyot trained, planted at a density of 4,000 vines per hectare.

The summer of 2015 was one of the hottest and driest of the last 20 years and the harvest started in the first part of September, around two weeks earlier than usual. The grapes harvested were very ripe and healthy. The weather during the harvest was consistently sunny and rather hot for September.

The grapes were gently pressed, then fermented for two weeks in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks at 16 °C. Unoaked, the wine was bottled in the spring following the harvest.
