Tormaresca Torcicoda Primitivo
Tormaresca Torcicoda Primitivo has typical varietal aromas: rich, ripe red fruits alongside a light element of prune and some spice from the wood. Soft, round and full-bodied on the palate, with a depth and wild complexity that sets it apart.
Tormaresca is made up of two estates in different areas of Puglia: in the central, inland region of Castel del Monte they have Aglianico, and in the Salento peninsula of the extreme south-east, Primitivo and Negroamaro. Cabernet and Chardonnay are grown in both zones, giving the winemaker a broad palette from which to blend the very consistent entry-level wines. Antinori only invested here in 1998, yet in that time Tormaresca has become a flagship of Puglian winemaking.
The Masseria Maìme estate runs along the Adriatic coast, with vineyards set in between woods and pine forests. The grapes for Torcicoda come from older Primitivo vineyards at the estate.
Following pressing of the grapes and fermentation, there was a fifteen- day maceration period in stainless steel tanks. During this time, the must completed alcoholic fermentation at temperatures of up to 26°C. After pressing and maceration, the wine completed malolactic fermentation in French and Hungarian barriques where it was aged for ten months.
Named for the region’s ancient seaside towers overlooking the Adriatic Sea, Tormaresca adds a fresh dimension to Italy’s world-class wine landscape. Indeed, it is the only producer with vineyards in both of Puglia’s elite winegrowing regions.
Tormaresca leads Puglia’s modern renaissance by combining classic winemaking with the latest viticulture techniques to create exceptional wines just waiting to be discovered. All Tormaresca wines are crafted with 100% estate-grown fruit.
They began working in the Apulia region in 1998 under Tormaresca label in the region’s Murgia and Alto Salento areas. This was another case – maybe even the best example – of redeeming marvelous terroir. Wine has been made on the plateaus of the “heel” of the italian boot since the time of the ancient Greeks. Until just a few years ago, this region was the largest producer of wine grapes in the entire country. However, most of the grapes were exported. As soon as they were cut from the vines, they were sent elsewhere in Italy and around the world, where they were used to make table wine.

All goods should be examined upon receipt, and any claim for loss or breakage notified by email or telephone to Hay Wines immediately. In the case of goods delivered by couriers, unless any claim is made within 24 hours, no compensation, refund or other credit will be available. In the case of damaged goods, Hay Wines reserves the right to collect these.
