Umbrele Sauvignon Blanc
Umbrele Sauvignon Blanc is a deliciously refreshing Sauvignon Blanc bursting with zesty citrus character and a hint of exotic fruit
At Cramele Recas Englishman Philip Cox and his wife Elvira have replanted 700 hectares of decrepit vineyards and replaced them with immaculately tended sites the equal of anywhere else in the world.
A brand new winery, and the recruiting of seasoned new world winemakers, has enabled them to produce top quality reds and whites http://www.recaswine.ro/en/
Producer Profile For years the Chileans have propagated the myth that they alone are capable of producing quality, modern single vineyard wines at very affordable prices but the wines from Umbrele, hailing from the shadows of the Carpathian Mountains in Transylvania, demonstrate how wrong they were.
Massive investment in new vineyards and in the winery has resulted in beautifully fresh and fruity wines that would be enough to convince even Dracula of the error of his ways.
Viticulture Densely planted on hilly sites surrounding the winery at an altitude of 100m, the vines average 10 years old.
Trained using the Guyot method. Drip irrigation is used if absolutely necessary though is by no means used every year.
Winemaking Machine Harvested in the cool of the night in order to ensure the grapes reach the winery in the best possible condition.
De-stemming followed by very gentle pressing using a pneumatic press is followed by cold Maceration overnight in order to extract the maximum aromatics from the grapes.
Fermentation is in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks at 14C. Oak Treatment No oak treatment.
Tasting Note Racy passion fruit, tangerine and gooseberry flavours are graceful and elegant, with a lovely, alive mouth feel and a medium body.
A zingy acidity adds to the elegance, and the flavours echo on the finish.
Food Matching The perfect accompaniment to fish, chicken and summer salads.
