Description

Visan Native Domaine Dieu le Fit Pouizin CDR

Visan Native Domaine Dieu le Fit Pouizin CDR consists of: 70% Grenache, 30% Syrah.

The soil is of clay-limestone type. The vineyard is 25 to 55 years old, low yielding. Vinification and aging: Harvested by hand. Fermentation plot, 10 to 20 days. Aging in concrete vats.

From the excellent 2015 vintage, Native is a blend of concrete-aged Grenache and wood-aged Syrah and Mourvèdre. The Grenache’s silky tannins enrobe a pleasing dark-fruit core, with myrtle and red cherry both in evidence on the palate.  Intense ruby gradient with purple hues, aromas of red berries and spices such as cinnamon and pepper. The attack is elegant. Rich, fleshy palate with aromas of prune, licorice and wild berries. The tannins are melted and the finish lingering. Serving: Aubergine gratin with tomato, lamb, filet mignon, truffle omelette . Drink now to 2023.

Sadly, differences between Rémi and his father has seen him leave and set up on his own in the village. The arrangement going forward will be that Rémi will continue to manage the vineyards, applying the same biodynamic preparations as previously, but will now pay his father a commercial rate for the grapes. Now he has branched out on his own with Domaine Dieu-le-Fit and bought a magnificent 19th century château in the heart of the village. Visan is one of the more self-effacing of the Côtes du Rhône Villages, not clamouring self-righteously for standalone appellation status, and therefore less well-known than near neighbours such as Rasteau and Vacqueyras. Despite this, the wines can be excellent.  The essence of the excellent Domaine la Fourmente still remains, albeit a little improved, plus a new, divinely inspired name.
