Description

Wakefield St Andrews Chardonnay

Wakefield St Andrews Chardonnay has sweet spice and savoury cashew nut from the French oak add complexity to the tropical fruit aromas. This is a medium-bodied yet sumptuous wine with an enjoyable creaminess. Flavours of juicy white fleshed stone fruit are evident along with cleansing citrus at the finish.

St Andrews is the flagship range from Wakefield Wines. In 1995 the Taylor family purchased the historic St Andrews property next door to the Wakefield estate, releasing their first wines in 1999. The wines are hand crafted from individually selected parcels of fruit, grown on the family’s estate vineyards, and are a true labour of love with the greatest dedication and care.

The Wakefield estate covers 750 hectares and has approximately 415 hectares under vine with a plan to raise this up to 600 hectares. The estate has a diverse selection of micro-climates, soil combinations and geographical characteristics which combine to create myriad of individual sites which bring their own unique characteristics to the wines. This enables careful site selection to take place ensuring that each grape variety is planted on the most suitable site. Around 60% of the vines are planted on Terra Rossa (red-brown loam over limestone) soils which tend to lie on the hillsides, the rest are planted on deep clay base with rich loam soils on land that rolls down the banks of the Wakefield River.

Berton Foundstone Chardonnay 2021

An appealing fruit driven wine that has aromas of candied lemon, lime and honeydew melon. The palate is a fusion of sweet citrus, peardrop and ripe melon flavours that continue to a long and zesty finish. The wine is best enjoyed with lightly fried fish or just as an aperitif.

Josef Chromy Chardonnay 2017

Pale green straw. Complex, citrus and white peach with light cinnamon and toast characters from regular barrel stirring. A rich texture wine showing citrus, and nectarine flavours with integrated French oak. The palate is rich and full from barrel fermentation but balanced with natural acidity which gives structure and length.

Domaine des Ballandors Quincy 2020

This is the village adjacent to Sancerre and Pouilly Fume where wines of similar style are made but because of Quincy’s ‘lesser’ name at much reduced cost. This wine is a testament to that; the flavours and aromas achieved in this wine are equivalent to any top flight Sancerre, with ‘grippy’ edgy grapefruit notes and steely crisp fruit. When Anton Beukes, winemaker at the Môreson Winery in South Africa, tasted this wine at supper, he said; ‘This is the wine I would love to make’ - Anton makes some very serious wines, so what an accolade! Winner of Best French White Wine at ‘France under one roof’ London 2005.

Chereau Carre Muscadet 2020

One of the leading Muscadet producers with substantial family owned vineyards in some of the best locations of the region. The different terroirs owned allows Bernard to offer wines unique in style and differing qualities, - so forget the cheap pretenders to the Muscadet crown, try a wine that grabs you by the scruff of the neck and shakes you around the room - if you dare! Big wine with big minerally flavours of the sea, air and vegetation finishing with a crisp punchy smoky edge - yeehaa!

Dobogo Tokaji Furmint 2018

Medium gold in colour with a complex array of aromas including fresh notes of lime, pear, ripe apple, quince, herbs, chamomile and a hint of spiciness. The taught acid structure balances the ripe fruit concentration and salty, mineral character, which lingers on the elegant finish. This is a young and dynamic wine, which can be enjoyed immediately or aged for several years.

Peter Lehmann Margaret Semillon 2013

While bottle ageing in the Tanunda cellars, the wine has developed an attractive vibrant green/gold colour. The bouquet shows hints of lemon flower together with some waxy, honeyed development so typical of great, aged Semillon. The grapes were picked early in the season to retain more natural acidity and the palate is dry with a zesty finish.

Aromo Viognier 2020

Full bodied white with a rich background of savoury notes, a very aromatic peach and mayblossom fruit character, but without any sweetness. No oak and fresh fruit makes this wine a real winner. The Aromo wines have a great charm and appeal and this is no exception.

Dandelion Vineyards Enchanted Garden of the Eden Valley Riesling 2020

The appearance of Dandelion Vineyards Enchanted Garden of the Eden Valley Riesling foretells the pristine and unalloyed quality of its fruit. Classic aromatics of citrus zest, lemon foliage and hints of dragon fruit flowers are etched by a clear steely minerality. This is an attractively textural wine displaying the variety's intense purity. Bone dry, its structure and length is underpinned by austere acidity.
