Description
Waterford Estate Chardonnay
Waterford Estate Chardonnay has a brilliant olive green hue very characteristic of this single vineyard Chardonnay. The aromatics of this wine is driven by fresh peach pip, lime and a gentle influence from oak. The age of these vines still prove to produce lovely restraint, tightly structured wines which are rather perfumed when young but develop beautifully from time spent in bottle, 2 -5 years from release.
Single vineyard – A special and unique vineyard on the Waterford Estate property, planted in 1988 making it one of the oldest Chardonnay vineyards in the country. This vineyard was registered as a single vineyard in 2012, which ensures that the traceability of the wine can only go back to the original 5.8-hectare block. The soils are comprised of red clay (Hutton) as well as large granite deposits and parent material found throughout the clay profile. The clay adds structure to the wine, while the granite produces great minerality and finesse to the overall presentation.
Waterford is a 120 hectare estate situated in the stunningly beautiful Blauwklippen Valley, part of the Stellenbosch wine region. The property was identified and created by the Ord and Arnold families from a subsection of the old Stellenrust farm.
Kevin Arnold has built a brilliant team at Waterford built around his own winemaking prowess backed up by the outstanding talents of winemaker Mark le Roux. The Estate is really performing at the very peak of its powers making outstanding red and white wines both with the ability to age gracefully.
The Estate itself is also worth a visit if you ever happen to find yourself in the region and Kevin’s ‘safari tour’ of the property is something not to be missed!
At Waterford Estate, they wish to explore all the senses– sight, smell, sound, touch and taste, in order for their guests to experience both what is inside and outside the bottle, they call this the Waterford Way.
