Each month our Sommeliers will put together a selection of 6 different wines made from unusual grape varieties, or coming from lesser-known and emerging wine regions of the world.
We will “virtually” take you on to a “wine exploration” of new aromas, flavours and styles from producers and appellations that are normally more difficult to find and to try.
The Wine Exploration Box for this month is composed of one each of the following:
Wine Exploration Box: the whites
1. La Piotta MISunderstanding Frizzante, Oltrepo Pavese, Italy, £11.99 (1 bottle)
A bottle fermented semi-sparkling white wine made 100% from Riesling Italico grapes. Unfined and unfiltered, slightly cloudy in the glass, it shows fresh aromas of lemon peel and white blossoms. Very easy-drinking, with a pleasant bitter almond finish. A very versatile fizz, try it with cheese and salami board, grilled vegetables pasta… or just a bag of crisps will do!
2. Umbrele Sauvignon Blanc, Romania, £7.99 (1 bottle)
A deliciously refreshing Sauvignon Blanc bursting with zesty citrus character and a hint of exotic fruit.
3. Koch Cserszegi Fuszeres, Hungary, £10.99 (1 bottle)
This dry white wine is made out of the Hungarian indigenous Cserszegi Fuszeres grape and harvested by hand. Delightful aromatic offering notes of lychee, flowers and gooseberry; a good bodied wine with a vibrant and lovely freshness and orange peel spice finish.

4. Fabrizio Vella Rosso Organico, Sicily, Italy, £8.99 (1 bottle)
A natural wine with a complex nose, which is spicy and packed full of punchy liquorice, chocolate, and dark fruits. Crisp, pleasant and persistent in the mouth.
5. Time Waits for No One Jumilla Monastrell, Mencia, Spain, £12.29 (1 bottle)
A juicy and moreish red wine made from 100% Monastrell grapes that are grown in the Jumilla DO of Mencia is southeastern Spain. Aged for three months in American oak, the wine displays attractive floral aromas, ripe fruit and balsamic notes in the background. Smooth and persistent finish.
6. Gaia Estates Notios Red, Peloponnese, Greece, £13.99 (1 bottle)
Made from the Agiorgitiko grape, native to Nemea. On the nose, it has blackberry, cinnamon, spice and red berries. On the palate it is deep and rich, yet refined, with juicy plum flavours, mixed with spicy oak and a lovely earthiness.
