Navajas Rioja
Navajas Rioja is Rioja at its precocious youthful best, with intense raspberry and black cherry fruit overlaid with a flourish of vanilla and coconut.
Beautifully balanced, Navajas Rioja with its medium weight is cushioned by fine grain tannins. (one of my favourite quaffing wines)
Using Tempranillo/Mazuelo Rioja - typical nuances of the Tempranillo variety, assisted by Mazuelo, helps to increase the Navajas Rioja acidity and its wild fruity aromas of red berries.
Cherry red colour with light violet hues, and its intensity and depth are expressions of youth.
Initially fresh but complex and tasty on the palate with a gentle astringency and a medium-long, lively and satisfying aftertaste.
Background:-
A family winery originally founded in 1918 as Bodegas Arjona but in 1983 the Navajas family become the sole stockholders, changing its name to Bodegas Navajas. Bodsgas Navajas
The year 2000 was a turning point in the Bodega’s history when they invested in enlarging and improving the winery and cellars.
A new barrel-aging area and new modern facilities equipped with state-of-the-art technology completed the improvements.
Navaja’s family believe that the quality of the wine begins in the vineyards. For this reason they monitor and control the vineyards which belong to their growers in Rioja Alta and Baja.
Bodegas Navajas is a family run winery based in Navarette, Rioja.
It was founded in 1918 as Bodegas Arjona. In 1978 the Navajas family joined the running of the winery.
By 1983 Navajas became sole stock holders and the company changed its name to Bodegas Navajas. S.L.
Antonio Navajas senior, who still potters around the winery, built the original Navajas bodega in 1983.
A new state of the art winery was built a few years ago by Antonio junior.
Here he steel ferments his wines prior to oak ageing in high toast American oak barrels supplied by Murua, the famous Riojan cooperage in Logroño.
The winery vinifies about a million kilos of grapes sourced from 350 growers in and around Navarette.
This region is renowned for its old vines and high quality of fruit.
