Old World Wine Box
Try the Old World Wine Box, carefully selected by the Hay Wines team for its customers.
If you are looking for a selection of good quality Old World wine, then you have just found it!
The Old World Wine Box is composed of:
1. Dominio de Fontana Sauvignon Blanc Verdejo, Ucles, Spain, £10.99 (1 bottle)
Sauvignon Blanc provides grassy and gooseberry notes. Conversely the Verdejo adds notes of white pepper and fennel. Ultimately this makes the wine textured and aromatic, with an authentic palate. Furthermore, this wine is rounded off by a crisp mineral finish.
2. Paul Jaboulet Secret de Famille Cote du Rhone Blanc, Rhone, France, £12.99 (1 bottle)
Made from a blend of white local grape varieties including Grenache Blanc, Marsanne and Viognier. An elegant wine, it has floral aromas and flavours of citrus and peach.
3. Terre Antiche Gavi di Gavi, Piedmont, Italy, £14.99 (1 bottle)
An attractive lemon yellow colour. This wine is scented and delicate, with hints of lime zest on the nose and fruit with a lovely zip and verve on the palate and a mineral finish.
4. Pascual Larrieta Rioja Joven, Rioja Alavesa, Spain, £11.69 (1 bottle)
The winery is located in Samaniego, which sits at the foot of the Sierra de Cantabria Mountains in the heart of the Rioja Alavesa. Most of the inhabitants of this village are engaged in winemaking. The winery’s 15 ha of vineyards, with an average age of 50, benefit from the marl soil present in this area, which is ideal for winegrowing.
5. Chateau des Antonin Bordeaux Superieur, Bordeaux, France, £12.99 (1 bottle)
This is an excellent value, textbook claret that has inviting aromas of cedar, blackcurrant & plum. On the palate there are delicious flavours of dark fruits & a nice lifted finish. A blend of half Cabernet Sauvignon and half Merlot this offers great value for every-day drinking.
6. San Marzano Il Pumo Salice Salentino, Puglia, Italy, £10.49 (1 bottle)
San Marzano Il Pumo Salice Salentino has an intense bouquet of cherry, savoury plum and spicy notes combined with an attractive hint of Mediterranean herbs. Full bodied with a generous flavour and a pleasant fresh finish. This wine is an excellent accompaniment to salami, savoury first courses and cheese platters.
