Alpha Zeta Rose
Alpha Zeta Rose is a lovely light cherry pink in colour with a fresh perfume of cherry blossoms and wild strawberries.
Alpha Zeta Rose is lively and fresh on the palate, with a juicy, cherry jam fruit character and a lifted, fragrant finish.
The Alpha Zeta wines go from strength to strength. Leading New Zealand winemaker Matt Thomson is now working with two co-operatives whose vineyards cover about 1,900 hectares in the hills northeast of Verona.
With this great range of vineyards and fruit to choose from, Matt is now able to demonstrate even better the potential inherent in Veronese viticulture.
Alpha Zeta was started in 1999 when Liberty Wines and Matt Thomson set out to produce a range of modern, fruit driven wines from the hills outside Verona. (Alpha Zeta, Italian Wines)
The aim was to work with growers (rather than buy bulk wine, which is standard among most wines from Verona at this price) to obtain ripe grapes (by reducing yields and picking later) and then, using Matt’s expertise, preserve these flavours in the finished wines.
The wines are now sealed under stelvin, though the Amarone and Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso will remain under cork due to legal stipulations. These are modern, innovative wines that express the real quality inherent in Veronese viniculture.
Italians are fanatical about a number of things – family, football, food, and, for an ever growing number of producers, wine.
When it comes to wine, however, Italy is still a world of contrasts. On the one hand it is one of the biggest producers of wine in the world, with more land under vine than any other country apart from France and Spain, and regularly exporting more wine than any other country.
Its mass market successes of recent years with varietals such as Pinot Grigio and Prosecco have been staggering.
On the other hand, Italy has a multitude of small, fanatical producers who are working constantly to produce the very highest quality wines they possibly can from the unique conditions available to them.
