Richard and Charlie were at The Grand Jours de Bourgogne Côte Chalonnaise tasting on the hunt for new Burgundian agencies, a tough ask with the 2021 vintage around the corner.
After a long day of tasting, and no possibility of allocations due to the short vintages, we stumbled across a table showing 2019s, a vintage behind their compatriots as they are a new Domaine with their first vintage in 2018. We loved the precision, elegance and the purity of the wines, with the reds showing fine silky tannins.
Alexia Russo pursued an international career in the luxury industry, whilst Caroline was in insurance, they decided to reconnect with nature and fulfil a childhood dream, to create a wine estate with organic viticulture.
After obtaining their Professional Agricultural Certificate at the Lycée Viticole de Beaune and completing internships which included a stage with Sylvain Pataille, their first vintage was born in 2018.
In the same year, Château de Garnerot was purchased, an 18th Century property, in the village of Mercurey, the Château has hosted for several years the Saint Vincent Guild, “Grands Jours de Bourgogne”, the “Saint Vincent Tournante” event, as well as many other wine fairs.
In the winery, Caroline and Alexia do their best to work in a natural way. The grapes are handpicked and transported back to the winery in small crates.
