Taylors Classic Vintage Port
Deep purple black with a narrow magenta rim. High notes of pure, intense woodland fruit with lively accents of green apple, fresh plum and raspberry. Around this core of bright, singing fruit is a heady aura of gumcistus and wild herbs. On a deeper register, exotic notes of cedarwood and jasmine provide an additional dimension of complexity. The wine has an attractive leanness and muscularity with sinewy, linear tannins that integrate seamlessly into the mid palate and then re-emerge to hold the wine in a confident grip. Energised by a racy acidity, the intense berry flavours continue to build into the long finish. Although the keynotes are refinement and poise, the wine displays the restrained vigour and stamina that are the hallmarks of the Taylor style.
Taylor’s holds one of the most extensive reserves of very old cask aged Port of any producer. They include a collection of rare Single Harvest Ports. These are Ports from a single year which age to full maturity in seasoned oak casks and display the year of harvest on the label.
Taylor’s has decided to make a limited release, each year, of a Single Harvest Port made 50 years previously. The sixth in the series is the 1969 Single Harvest.
These extraordinary Port wines have aged in oak casks in the cool, dark and quiet environment of Taylor’s lodges in Oporto. The wine has matured, slowly and evenly, gradually developing the sublime, rich and sumptuous aromas characteristic of a very old Port wine. Half a century of ageing has given this Single Harvest 1969 its seductive complex aromas and intense mellow flavour.
Its headquarters are within the ancient lodges in Oporto where their fine and rare ports reach maturity having grown up in the Douro Valley.
Best known for their elegant and long-lasting vintage ports which are among the World’s most sought after wines
