Borgo Selene Rosso
Borgo Selene Rosso has a good depth of ruby red colour with an attractive perfume of fresh, ripe red berries and a hint of spice.
Borgo Selene Rosso is round and smooth on the palate, with sufficient body and soft tannins to support the juicy, blackberry and ripe, dark plum fruit character - lovely spicy plum perfumes on the finish.
The Borgo Selene wines are made and blended by Alberto Antonini at the Curatolo family winery and represent superb value for money.
The name derives from the Greek goddess of the Moon, Selene, illustrating the influence the Greeks (who also brought the vine to Sicily) have had on the Mediterranean's largest island. (Borgo Selene)
Vineyards
Produced from selected grapes grown in two different vineyards: one near Marsala and one in the centre of Sicily.
Vintage information
The 2014 vintage was marked by a relatively mild winter and a cool, rainy spring. Overall, from the 1st of October 2013 to the 30th of September 2014, 620 mm of rainfall was recorded: slightly lower than average, with rainfall concentrated in the spring months. July and August passed without excesses of heat and with an excellent temperature range between day and night, thus favouring the production of particularly fresh and balanced wines.
Vinification
Fermentation and maceration took place in 500 litre stainless steel vats. The must was macerated on the skins for 5-6 days at a temperature of 24-26°C. It remained on the lees for a month before being bottled.
