Jean-Paul & Charly Thevenet Morgon Tradition
Producer
The Thévenet family has lived in Villié-Morgon, in the heart of the Beaujolais wine region, for the last four generations. Jean-Paul Thevenet is certainly a name in everyone’s ear ever since Kermit Lynch dubbed him, together with Marcel Lapierre, Guy Breton and Jean Foillard, as Beaujolais famous “Gang of Four” in the ‘80s. The essence of their philosophy: take a step back, appreciate and cultivate old vines, apply organic farming practices, avoid the use of sulphur, let natural ferments do their magic and help the terroir expressing itself through minimal intervention.
The vinification is carried out using natural yeasts and without the addition of SO2, carbonic fermentation in concrete vats. The maceration lasts a fortnight or more depending on the year. Generally, the free-run and press juices are blended after pressing and matured in concrete vats for 6 to 8 months. The bottling without fining or filtration takes place the following spring.
