Wild Knapp Gin

“Back in August 2018 Jonny came home from a busy shift in the kitchen and declared “We’re going to make gin!” Natalie heard the word gin to which her automatic response is “yes please”. After a period of experimenting and research we  realised that we had both the skills and access to amazing botanical ingredients surrounding us here on the knapp to create a fantastic London Dry Gin. Shortly after this our very first gin ‘Wild Knapp Gin’ was born.

We emptied an outbuilding that was previously used for storage and purchased our first small still.  When we say we are a small batch micro-distillery, we really mean it with each batch being a maximum 25 bottles.

We started to experiment with fruit and herbs grown on the land surrounding the distillery; known locally as the knapp. The ingredients we use include quince, apples, pears, thyme, bay, rosemary, rose petals and elderberries. We also cut our gin to bottle strength using our own spring water. After many late nights and interesting combinations we found what we thought was a winner. Everything we do is hand crafted from distilling the gin itself to bottling and labelling each bottle. ” – Little Knapp Distillery

Moniack Mead

Rating:
Moniack Mead is a traditional honey mead which is produced at Moniack Castle by Highland Wineries, and is said to be one of the best meads being made in modern times. Mead is one of the oldest alcoholic drinks known in history and, like all meads, Moniack Mead is produced through the process of fermenting honey. An interesting fact about mead is that it is traditionally drunk for the month after a wedding which is where the word “honeymoon” came from. Moniack Mead has a lovely, lingering and smooth flavour with elements of caramel and fermented honey. Our recommendation is that this mead is best served either chilled or if you prefer as a aperitif. 75cl bottle

Mandarine Napoléon is an exquisite, well-balanced blend of mandarins and refined 10-year-old aged cognac. Dating back to the early 1800s, and its roots stemming from the hands of Napoléon Bonaparte, the liqueur’s history is as rich as its distinctive flavor. The drink was custom made for Napoléon, after the emperor came across chemist Antoine-François de Fourcroy, known for his extraordinary skill of distilling. It was not until 1892, after the two had died, that the liqueur was introduced to the public.
