Description

Exclusively handcrafted for Hay Wines by the Padroggi family in Oltrepo Pavese, Northern Italy. Made 100% from organic Pinot Noir grapes, and aged at least 30 months on the lees. This sparkling wine shows a complex and elegant nose dominated by enticing notes of dried fruit, bread crust and toasted almond. Good structure, with a beautiful creamy texture intensified by fine lingering bubbles. Dry finish with remarkable length. Spicy notes of white pepper are combined with rich fruitiness of ripe pear. The perfect celebration wine!

This wine is named in honour of the foundation of St Katherine’s Hospital, one of Ledbury’s oldest buildings, in 1231 by bishop Hugh Foliot.

The 1231 Vintage Brut is exclusively handcrafted for Hay Wines by the Padroggi family in Oltrepo Pavese, Northern Italy.

100% organic Pinot Noir grapes and at least 30 months aging on the lees.

The 1231 Vintage Brut shows a complex, warm and elegant nose with enticing notes of dried fruit, almond and honey.

Good structure, with a beautiful creamy texture and fine lingering bubbles.

The finish shows a remarkable length, with creamy notes of butter and rich fruitiness of ripe pear. So, the perfect celebration wine.

The Producer - Padroggi La Piotta

Born in 1985 by a family devoted to the world of wine for generations, La Piotta were pioneers in organic farming in the region.

The average age of the vines currently present is about 30 years. As a witness to the love for traditions and territory, nine rows of Pinot Grigio planted in 1930 still exist and produce.

In addition, over the years it grew to become a farm land of 15 hectares of vineyards.

The entire production cycle takes place in the company and it is personally taken care of by the Padroggi family.

The Padroggi family has, for generations, dedicated its efforts to the cultivation of the vine according to nature.

The company founder, Luigi, and his sons Gabriel and Mario created the foundation for the growth of the company.

In addition, recently the third generation of winemakers joined the company: the young Enrico and Luca joined their fathers in the technical, productive and commercial parts.

Therefore, their intention is to continue the process begun by their grandfather, always bringing new ideas.

In 2013 La Piotta became part of the Federazione Italiana Vignaioli Indipendenti (FIVI – Italian Federation of Independent Winegrowers). The aim is representing and safeguarding the figure of the winemaker finally promoting the quality and authenticity of Italian wines.
