Blank Canvas is a collaboration between Master of Wine Sophie Parker-Thomson and her husband, award-winning, international winemaking consultant Matt Thomson. With over 40 years of collective experience in the global wine industry, they produce small-batch fine wines from exceptional single vineyard sites throughout New Zealand, under this ‘art-meets-science’ project. Matt has worked over 50 vintages in numerous wine regions worldwide. He has also worked with David Gleave since 1994 and is involved with many wineries in the Liberty Wines portfolio, primarily as a consultant. Sophie travels extensively in Europe and has worked with Matt since 2011, leaving her career in law behind her. This international experience is the founding inspiration for Blank Canvas.

The classic ‘Holdaway Vineyard’ Sauvignon Blanc has an attractive salty character, distinctive of the coastal, Dillons Point subregion of Marlborough from which it hails. It is quickly becoming one of New Zealand’s top-rated Sauvignon Blanc wines with a near-bone-dry palate, defined by intense passionfruit and blackcurrant notes. Their ‘Abstract’ | Three Rows Sauvignon Blanc, sourced from a dry-farmed parcel of the ‘Holdaway Vineyard’, is fermented with indigenous yeast in seasoned, French oak puncheons and bottled without fining or filtration. The resulting texture and complexity draw parallels to Bordeaux Blanc from Graves. Both wines are Appellation Marlborough Wine™ (AMW) endorsed.
