Bodegas Tajinaste Tradicional Listan Negro
Bodegas Tajinaste Tradicional Listan Negro is a vivid ruby-red colour.
The wine has spicy redcurrant and cherry notes which are complimented by dried rose and blood orange.
Whilst being refreshingly juicy, the Tajinaste offers lively red fruit flavours and a hint of black pepper.
On the palate, the finish is brisk and appealingly sweet, with gentle tannins and lingering red fruit notes.
Tajinaste is a small family-owned winery located in the Valle de la Orotava. As it is on the north side of Tenerife, it is therefore heavily influenced by the vientos alisios, or trade winds, which help moderate the climate of the islands.
Agustín García and his family farm a total of six hectares (15 acres). Tajinaste‘s vineyards are situated between 300 and 500 meters above sea level.
The oldest stocks of the varieties Listán Negro and Listán Blanco were planted around 1914 (100% listan negra).
Ordinarily, Listan Negro is a black-skinned grape grown in the Canary Islands and in parts of mainland Spain.
Listan Negro is used both in blended wines (often with Tinta Negra Mole) and in varietal wines, which mostly come from the Tacoronte-Acentejo DO that covers the island of Tenerife.
Sometimes wines made from Listan Negro vary considerably in style. These can range from rosé wines to light red wines with soft tannins, spice and red berry flavours.
Plantings of Listan Negro are primarily concentrated in the unique volcanic terroir of the Canary Islands, and vines are planted in small pits that are dug out of the ash-based soils.
These pits, which resemble the surface of the moon, capture moisture and also provide some shelter from strong, dry winds.
Listan Negro thrives in these volcanic soils, and is not found in this form in quantity anywhere else in the world.
