The blend is 80% Malbec with 20% Merlot which creates a lovely balance of ripe red and dark fruit. A wine that has structure yet roundness too, with ripe gentle brambly fruit and great length, with added complexity from a year spent in oak.

Producer

The Bernede family farm 60 hectares on the gentle slopes rising from the Lot river, rich in siliceous, clay and limestone soils.

Philippe has tinkered with the blend over the years to achieve a fine equilibrium, and today the blend consists of 80% Malbec and 20% Merlot, creating an intense wine combining local rusticity with everyday drinking.

Their wines are now organic (from the 2022 vintage) and age well. We are also delighted to see that our friends Kermit Lynch have represented Clos La Coutale in the USA for over 40 years!
