Chateau Garraud Lalande de Pomerol
Chateau Garraud Lalande de Pomerol is a plum colour. Good expression of black berry fruits and well-integrated oak.Straightforward on entry, then mouth-filling in the middle, with firm but excellent tannic structure and a long, promising finish.
Aromas of ripe dark fruit and oak on the nose are followed by rich, intensely ripe, plummy fruit on the palate. Fresh core acidity keeps it vibrant and alive and this is all supported by a taught tannin structure. All in all a great example of how Merlot excels in Lalande de Pomerol
The vineyard of Chateau Garraud is located on a variety of rich terroirs: gravel, clay-gravel, deep clay with “crasse de fer” and clay-sand, high on the Pomerol plateau. The Château Garraud vineyard was planted in the early middle of the 19th century by the Count de Kermartin. Léon Nony purchased it at the end of the 1930's and proceeded to renovate and extend it.
Planted on pure gravel and deep clay the yields at Chateau Garraud are limited by Double Guyot pruning as well as bud removal. Leaf removal and crop thinning are carried out too when necessary. Harvest is by hand.
On arrival at the winery the grapes are sorted on a vibrating table. Vinification in temperature controlled in stainless steal vats. Fermentation is followed by a long maceration. The wine is matured for 12 months in air conditioned cellars and is bottled on site.
