Chateau Fontareche Vielles Vignes Corbieres Rouge
Chateau Fontareche Vielles Vignes Corbieres Rouge shows notes of black fruit and very true to type. Wild on the nose with bramble and sweet spice more structure on the palate than the nose suggests. Mineral and taut on the finish. Classy.
Just north of Lezignan-Corbieres and situated in the middle of a perfect square of 200ha of land is the fourteenth century Chateau de Fontareche one of the oldest estates in Languedoc.
Respect for terroir is the philosophy which drives the work in the vineyards and it is therefore hardly surprising that the principals of lutte raisonnee and complete traceability have been applied to the estate for the past 15 years. In 2004, 11ha were given over to organic agriculture with a view eventually to converting the entire property.
Fontarèche, which takes its name from the Latin "melting turgid" (the fountain that springs), is one of the great historic estates of Languedoc wine.
In the inventories of the Archbishop of Narbonne, one detects the presence of vines in 1350 Fontarèche soon.
9 generations
In 1682, the castle of Fontarèche and its winery, becomes the property of the Mignard family whose descendants, the family Lamy, are the current owners of the domain.
An exceptional setting
The castle is located in Languedoc Fontarèche few kilometers from Lezignan-Corbieres. The area forms a perfect square of 200 ha around the buildings. Here flourish, since almost always, one might say, 160 ha of vignesclassées half in AOP Corbières and half in Wine Country.
Its location makes it a castle in which to live. The Canal du Midi, the medieval city of Carcassonne, the Cathar castles or the Mediterranean Sea are situated only a few kilometres. www.fontareche.fr
