Tasting Note
"This perfectly middle-aged rouge abounds with beautiful aromas of strawberries, cassis, leather and chocolate along with a certain woodsiness, and it feels deep and soulful—the way old-school Bordeaux should." - Dustin Soiseth. Drink now until 2028.
Producer
Benedicte and Gregoire Hubba were winelovers before they were winemakers. A computer scientist and a chemist respectively, their shared passion led them, after a long search, to take the plunge, purchasing the vineyards that make up Chateau Moulin Pey Labrie.
Ready to listen, the couple benefited from the advice of their neighbours as they developed their own approach. Certified both organic and biodynamic, they believe in listening to each vine and giving it what it needs rather than what you think it should have. The same sensitivity shows itself in the cellars where they prefer to observe rather than to interfere, allowing the terroir to express itself as much as possible.
The scale here is small with 6.75ha of vines, 95% Merlot and 5% Malbec, now with an average age of around 65. Each parcel is vinified separately before ageing in one third new oak. We were delighted to be offered a parcel of the beautifully mature, classically styled 2008 direct from the cellar, and believe it represents tremendous value.
