Christophe Mittnacht Riesling Grand Cru Rosacker
Tasting Note
A beautiful full and a dry Grand Cru Alsace Riesling from an up and coming producer. "A seductive nose of lemon curd and classic Riesling petrol and honey markers leads, bringing you into a rich palate of more lemon, tangy acid, tarragon and other herbal underbrush, and a stony minerality. Overall, it’s slick and sophisticated, offering a lush and satisfying mouthfeel, and a long mouth-cleansing finish." - as reviewed by Forbes magazine - Wine Of The Month: An Easy-Going White From Alsace
Producer
This domaine is run by Christophe and his charming wife Yuka, a talented Japanese chef.
They own and farm some of the finest sites around Ribeauvillé and Hunawihr, including the Grand Cru Rosacker and Grand Cru Osterberg (source of the fabled Clos St Hune and Cuvée Emile).
They were one of the first domaines in Alsace to convert to biodynamic viticulture in 1999. Christophe believes in minimum intervention, and allowing the soil to express the minerality of each terroir. These wines are super gastronomical, pure fruit, sharp acidity and lovely minerality.
2019 was Christophe’s first vintage where he made the wine in his own new cellars – exciting!
Christophe has made 2 new Cuvees with his chef wife Yoka to accompany food. Both are delicious but restrained!
Cuvée Végane Pinot Blanc 100%, elevage in ‘foudres’ on ‘lies fines’ for 9 months. Cuvée Epice 2019, 60% Gewurtraminer, 20% Pinot Gris, 20% Pinot Blanc, elevage on ‘lies fines’ for 9 months.
Next year Christophe will have an additional 2.5 hectares around Riquewihr, including some Grand Cru Schoenenbourg.
