Costa delle Parracine Forastera Ischia
Tasting Note
A light, crisp and refreshing Forastera, with delicate citrus and green apple notes complemented by a distinctive almond character and a mineral note on the beautifully balanced finish.
Producer
Costa delle Parracine is the Feudi di San Gregorio Group’s new project on Ischia, a joint venture with Tenuta C’est la Vie, owner of an historic wine estate. The island boasts a rich winemaking heritage dating back to the early Middle Ages, confirmed by the discovery of 9th-century amphorae and a document from 1036 AD indicating widespread viticultural activity on the island. Ischia's distinctive feature is its mosaic of 'Parracine': dry-stone walls constructed over centuries by the island's master stonemasons. Built from precious green tuff extracted from Mount Epomeo, these walls not only demarcate the land but also protect the island’s picturesque, terraced vineyards. Located in the Forio area, the estate features a cellar carved from green tuff, dating back to 1878, which is still used for winemaking today. The label depicts the island's silhouette and a leaping rabbit, known as Liparina in local dialect - a significant animal for the islanders. Costa della Parracine embraces the land and sea, producing wines that are fresh, mineral-rich, and expressive of this stunning volcanic island.
