Domaine de Durban Muscat Beaumes de Venise
Domaine de Durban Muscat Beaumes de Venise is a gently fortified wine is made entirely from the Muscat de Frontignan a Petits Grains, which has been matured in old barriques.
Aromas of apricot, peach, Seville orange and ripe pear come to mind when sampling Domaine de Durban Muscat Beaumes de Venise, an exemplary dessert wine.
Domaine de Durban is located in the hills to the east of the village of Beaumes-de-Venise and is owned and run by Madame Leydier and her 2 sons.
This is the only area of the Rhone Valley where the Muscat grape is grown and it is from Muscat that the famous "Vin doux naturel" of Beaumes-de-Venise is made.
Muscat grapes are cultivated and vinified using the same techniques for table wine before pure alcohol is added to the wine bringing the strength to over 15 degrees.
Located on the hillsides of Beaumes-de-Venise, Domaine de Durban owes its reputation to its famous Muscat, a sweet, aperitif wine grown beneath the Dentelles of Montmirail and sheltered from the Mistral.
The Domaine is surrounded by a pine forest and offers a panoramic view of the Durban vineyard.
Located on a hillside plateau overlooking the village of Beaumes-of-Venice, the Domaine of Durban was founded in 1159. http://www.domainedurban.com/en/domaine-durban.php
Method:-
The Domaine dominates the vineyard and offers an impressive panorama. Since the Sixties, the Leydier family has nurtured and developed the production of the now internationally-renowned wines.
The Domaine de Durban is located on soil composed of a mixture of Trias (40%) and Clay-Limestone (60%), which brings richness and complexity to the wines.
The sloped vineyard benefits from broad exposure to the sun and a micro-climate which helps it to produce an excellent harvest of fine wines every year.
The relationship between the vines and the soil offers ideal conditions for the production of muscats, fruity white wines and rich, textured red wines.
