Knockando 12 Year Old Single Malt Whisky
There is a very supple, chewy peat lying quietly in the background. The palate is quite full with notes of heather roots and damp earth, notes of honeyed sweetness with Jamaica ginger cake, a touch of rum with malty peat. The finish is quite long with winter spice and crystallized stem ginger with cereal notes
Like many other distilleries, Knockando was founded during the massive 'whisky boom' of the late 19th century. And just like many other distilleries, Knockando got into problems due to the 'Pattison Crisis'. Ten months after malt whisky production had started in May 1899, the distillery closed but in 1904 the gin producers W. & A. Gilbey bought the distillery.
