Description

One of the smokiest noses from Islay. It’s big, very, very concentraded, and redolent of iondine, sweet spices, good, mature sherry and creamy vanilla. Stunning! Very thick and rich. A massive mouthful of malt and sherry with good fruity sweetness, but also a woonderful sweetness. Big, powerful peat and oak. Long, spicy finish, figs, dates, peat smoke, vanilla.

Lagavulin 16 Year Old Single Malt Whisky

Lagavulin was founded by John Johnston in 1816 and it sits on Islay's southern coast, nearby the legendary Ardbeg and Laphroaig distilleries. Today, the distillery is known for producing the world's smokiest whisky, notable for its lapsang souchong-like flavour. Thanks to this wonderful character, Lagavulin was actually the best-selling Islay single malt until 1998, when Laphroaig took the lead. Details such as the very long distillation and the quality of the sherry casks help turn the smoky giant into a balanced, refined whisky.
