Mount Mary Triolet
Tasting Note
Refined and pure aromas of lemon peel, chalk, beeswax, orange blossoms and white flowers. The palate is medium-bodied with striking acidity and a creamy texture, giving notes of lanolin, freshly cut pineapple, grapefruit rind, flint and river stones. Very complex and complete, with an underlying tension and minerality. Made from 65% Sauvignon Blanc, 25% Semillon and 10% Muscadelle. Exceptional. Drink or hold. Screw cap. - James Suckling, 96 points
The Triolet blend, first produced at Mount Mary in 1987, was inspired by the white wines of Graves, Bordeaux. This wine is considered quite unique by Australian standards and has developed a reputation for ageing remarkably well.
Producer
Mount Mary, established in 1971 by Dr. John and Marli Middleton in Coldstream, Yarra Valley, is a cornerstone of Australian wine. Renowned for its elegance, longevity and commitment to place, the estate remains family-owned. Third-generation siblings Sam and Claire Middleton now lead operations—Sam overseeing winemaking and Claire managing sales and distribution.
Pioneers of the Yarra Valley, the Middletons identified the potential of their gentle, north-facing slope, planting 16 hectares. Today, their focus on sustainable practices, including eliminating chemical herbicides, enhances the vineyard’s legacy.
Mount Mary produces four wines: the Bordeaux-inspired Quintet, Pinot Noir, the Triolet (a Bordeaux-style white) and a Burgundian style Chardonnay, each exemplifying finesse and single-vineyard purity.
