Talisker Port Ruighe Single Malt

Talisker Port Ruighe Single Malt on the nose has a powerful peat-smoke with sea-water saltiness, which morphs in to a rich chilli and smokey chocolate character on the palate. A thick, wood smoke whisky, with added sweetness from rich berry fruits and alternative notes such as chocolate and orange pith.

Talisker Port Ruighe Single Malt is double matured in port casks, and is a toast to the Scottish traders who braved the high seas and were instrumental in the foundation of the port wine trade. Port Ruighe, pronounced ‘Portree’ is the Gaelic spelling of the once-bustling trading port on Skye. The port finish combines Talisker’ s powerful maritime character with succulent sweet notes of rich berry fruits for a superb taste experience.

Talisker was built in 1830 by brothers Kenneth and Hugh MacAskill.

As sons of the local doctor they were part of the establishment, so it's unlikely they would have embraced the fine art of distillation so bravely if it had still been an illegal practice.

But for those that took the trouble of obtaining a license it wasn't anymore, so distillation at Talikser was started in 1831. The distillery was transferred to Scottish Malt Distillers (SMD, predecessors of Diageo) in 1930.

The oldest working distillery on the Isle of Skye, set on the shores of Loch Harport with dramatic views of the Cuillins. This alluring, sweet, full-bodied single malt is so easy to enjoy, and like Skye itself, so hard to leave.

After visiting Talisker why not take a drive to the Fairy Pools in Glen Brittle or Dunvegan Castle, the seat of the Clan MacLeod.

Wildlife and scenery are spectacular no matter what the weather. Sea eagles, dolphins, whales and otters are all seen regularly with the Coral Beaches, Talisker Bay and Neist Point being some of the best places to spot them.
