Viu Manent Gran Reserva Chardonnay
Viu Manent Gran Reserva Chardonnay is a clean, bright greenish-yellow colour, this wine has a fresh and fruity nose marked by ripe white fruits, citrus notes and salinity due to its proximity to the sea. The palate is refreshing and silky with tremendous body, very good balance, and a vibrant acidity that gives way to a lingering, intense, and enjoyable finish.
The Gran Reserva is made using grapes from a vineyard located in the Litueche. Viticulture in the area is possible largely because of the oceanic influence where warm summer days, cool night combined with sea breezes and fog ensure the grapes develop slowly attaining full ripeness.
''The grapes of this impressive Chardonnay, made for the second time in 2015, come from a site at 330 metres in the Cordillera de la Costa. Crunchy, fresh and very lightly oaked, it has flavours of citrus and oatmeal and a tangy, refreshing aftertaste.'' 92 points, Tim Atkins, 2017 Chile Report
Viu Manent is a Chilean winery owned by the Viu family. It was founded in 1935 when the Catalonian immigrant Miguel Viu-García and his two sons Agustín and Miguel Viu-Manent founded Bodegas Viu in Santiago de Chile. They bottled and sold wine on the local market under the “Vinos Viu” brand.
They are one of the longest established producers in the region. Initially the family focused on a negociant wine business however, in 1966 they fulfilled a long held ambition and bought the Hacienda San Carlos de Cunaco and the vineyards in the Colchagua Valley from which they had long sourced their wines. The estate included 150 hectares of noble, pre-phylloxera vines.
Today their passion for their family heritage and stewardship of the land drives them to produce wines with character that express their origin and individual growing season. Their vineyards are all located in the renowned Colchagua Valley and cover 260 hectares over 3 locations: San Carlos, La Capilla and El Olivar. They also source grapes from selected Casablanca vineyards for some of their white wines.
Viu Manent craft wines from Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier for whites and Malbec, Syrah, Carménère, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for reds. They are highly respected and particuarly known for the high quality of their Malbecs. Operating internationally their wines have been recognised in many major international wine competitions. In 2010 they were named the most awarded Chilean winery in a survey of gold medals and trophies awarded in major international competitions by Vitis magazine.
