The aromas evoke Christmas- perfumed blackberry, boysenberry and brambly notes. Very inviting and satisfying, and almost relaxed. The palate opens up with ripe berry flavours, a slight earthiness, cassis and blackberries; with notes of grilled chestnuts and toasted breadcrumbs. The structure is powerful, with a full body of tannins and a long, velvety finish.

Woodlands Vineyard Margaret

Woodlands vineyard was established in 1973 by David & Heather Watson on Caves Road in Wilyabrup, and was one of the first five vineyards to be planted in the Margaret River Wine Region.

The first planting comprised of 1.2 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon in rows heading east-west along the contour of the property. A further 2 hectares were planted between 1974 and 1976, comprising Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc. Woodlands Vineyard now has 10 hectares of vines in total.

David and Heather aimed to create wines to emulate the great vineyards of Bordeaux of vines.

This vineyard is certified organic.

Woodlands ‘Margaret’ is sourced entirely from the Woodlands Vineyard. The Cabernet Sauvignon portion comes from a slope on the south of Woodlands that wraps around a 90-degree radius from east to north. The fruit on this slope receives a great deal of direct sunlight from morning to mid-afternoon, leading to rich full-bodied wines.

The Merlot and Malbec plots that make up the remainder of ‘Margaret’ come from Woodlands’ west-facing slope of deep loam soil. This slope receives the most direct afternoon sunlight at Woodlands, and produces more spicy exotic fruit characters in the finished wine.
