The 2016 Prélude à Grand-Puy Ducasse displays the poise and classic structure expected from a fine Pauillac vintage. The nose opens with ripe blackcurrant, graphite, and cedar, joined by subtler accents of tobacco leaf and crushed violets. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with firm yet refined tannins and a core of black cherry, cassis, and dark plum wrapped in toasted oak. The balance between freshness and concentration is striking, leading to a long, polished finish marked by mineral undertones and a touch of cocoa. Still youthful but already beautifully composed, it shows the finesse of its grand vin heritage with an inviting, approachable charm.

Château Grand-Puy Ducasse is a historic Pauillac estate in Bordeaux, classified as a Fifth Growth (Cinquième Cru) in the prestigious 1855 classification. The estate traces its roots to 1675, beginning when Arnaud Ducasse purchased a modest house on the banks of the Gironde river in Pauillac. The real development and expansion of the vineyard came in the 18th century under Pierre Ducasse, who assembled the property’s now-remarkable 40 hectares of vineyards across the Pauillac appellation, located on prime sandy-gravel soils ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
