Falconhead Sauvignon Blanc
Falconhead Sauvignon Blanc Winemaking:
The fruit for Falconhead Sauvignon Blanc comes from both our Marlborough vineyards located in the Awatere and Wairau valleys of the Marlborough district. The Awatere is cooler than the Wairau and the fruit reflects this, with the Awatere fruit being tighter and more restrained while the Wairau fruit is more upfront and tropical.
The fruit from both was pressed off skins soon after harvest in Marlborough, with the juice then being transported to Katikati for fermentation. Select yeasts are used, which combined contribute to the aromatic complexity of the wine.
For Falconhead Sauvignon Blanc, this wine the best parcels of fruit have been selected, which best represent the quality of the season and the vineyards.
Established in 1978 by kiwifruit farmer Morton Brown, the original Morton vineyard in Katikati produced its first vintage in 1983. With expansion since Morton Estate now has vineyards in Hawkes Bay on the east coast of the North Island, and Marlborough on the northern tip of the South Island.
