Quinta da Infantado LBV
Quinta da Infantado LBV has tremendous depth of colour, with ripe red fruit and chocolate perfumes on the nose.
On the palate Quinta da Infantado LBV is rich and sweet.
But it also has a beautiful balance due to well-integrated tannins, and a chocolate, plum and savoury cherry fruit.
Quinta da Infantado LBV finish is elegant and clean, with fine, delicate perfumes of warm, ripe fruit.
A hallmark of the Quinta do Infantado style is their practice of traditional foot-treading to extract flavour and tannin.
The quinta is part of the Roseira family for well over a century.
It is famous for bottling its own production on the estate, rather than shipping the wine in bulk down the Douro River.
The name "Infantado" derives from "Infante", the Portuguese name for Prince.
It was the Portuguese royal family who first built the winery in 1816.
Initially it was just a place where they could collect taxes in the form of grapes and wine by the local growers.
The Quinta is based in Pinhão, specifically in the subdistrict of Gontelho where the best Port vineyards may be found.
The estate is part of the Roseira family since the end of the 19th century, and brother and sister are now managing it as a whole.
The vineyards (terraced, very steep and hard-soiled) follow the traditional viticultural methods. All work is by hand.
Their basic Ruby and Tawny Ports are outstanding examples of elegance and richness.
The wines are normally from a blend of two or three vintages, with the Tawny aged in casks and small "toneis" (slightly smaller than barrique Bordelaise).
We have been truly enthusiastic about these wines since the very beginning. We especially found them wines of a unique character and also depth.
