Tinpot Hut Pinot Gris
Fragrant aromas of spice, pear and stone fruit mix with underlying notes of brioche and freshly cut spring flowers. This wine is medium bodied and textured with flavours of ripe pear and white peach and a touch of spicy nutmeg - all characteristics that are synonymous with Pinot Gris grown in the Blind River sub-region of Marlborough. This wine has beautifully ripe fruit flavours and is silky with good palate weight. The finish is both succulent and lingering.
Fiona Turner’s Tinpot Hut began in 2003. Fiona and husband Hamish established their own 50 acre vineyard in the emerging sub-region of Blind River. This area is just south of Marlborough's Awatere Valley.
The original Tinpot Hut is an historic mustering hut nestled high in the hills of Marlborough.
Tinpot Hut's owner and winemaker Fiona Turner began developing her Blind River "Home Block" vineyard in Marlborough's Awatere Valley with husband Hamish in 2005.
Now fully mature, the Home Block's Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Riesling especially are the foundation of Tinpot Hut wines today.
In addition, parcels of Blind River Grüner Veltliner and Hawkes Bay Syrah add also varietal diversity to the range.
Originally part of a large sheep farming station, Fiona acknowledged the origins of her Home Block by naming her range of wines after the historic "Tinpot Hut"; a Marlborough landmark especially frequented by local high country musterers.
