Umbrele Syrah
Umbrele Syrah has wonderful open fruit with generous deep soft flavours, deep rich & fruity with lovely soft spice, a really well made wine that is suitable for all occasions.
At Cramele Recas Englishman Philip Cox and his wife Elvira have replanted 700 hectares of decrepit vineyards and replaced them with immaculately tended sites the equal of anywhere else in the world.
A brand new winery, and the recruiting of seasoned new world winemakers, has enabled them to produce top quality reds and whites.
The winemaking tradition in Romania is a long and noble one.
The first records of viticulture in the Banat region date back to the Roman invasion of Dacia in the First Century AD, but legend tells of Bacchaus, the God of Wine, spending his childhood there.
More recent history shows that the vineyards used for Umbrele were already renowned by 1447, when the lord of Severin Mihall de Ciorna purchased the vineyards for 32 Hungarian gold florins.
For years the Chileans have propagated the myth that they alone are capable of producing quality, modern single vineyard wines at very affordable prices but the wines from Umbrele demonstrate how wrong they are!
Hailing from the shadow of the Carpathian Mountains in Transylvania, there has been massive investment in the winery and in new vineyards with the replanting of over 600 hectares.
This investment has resulted in beautifully fresh and fruity wines. http://www.recaswine.ro/&usg=ALkJrhgS74dVPMnxVwxpmCfwwKukBji4Mg#
Umbrele means shadow in Romanian, why are these wines called Umbrele, well it’s because these wines grow in the shadow of the Carpathian Mountains! Interesting indeed, however these wines are an excellent example of extremely high quality and cost effective winemaking, genuinely marvellous and within budget.
Umbrele Syrah is a good value easy drinking Syrah with youthful red fruits of raspberry and redcurrant with nice spice, a well rounded wine with a medium body.
